the craigs case essays
the craigs case essays While reading this case I couldnÃâ¢t believe how similar CraigÃâ¢s problem was to my own from couple years ago. I tried to recall all the facts from my own experience and compare them to CraigÃâ¢s. Even though I never had a steady job and I worked only couple of summers, I am pretty sure that many people had experience like this at one point in their careers. Every person in the world is different, and I believe that each person would behave differently in this case. To be fair maybe the outcome would be the same in some instances, but the decision process would be unique to every individual. This is where ethics come into the play, according to this term everyone should act the same in any given situation. Craig is facing very serious decision, just like in ShakespeareÃâ¢s Hamlet à to be or not to be? He is to choose between his physical well being and his conscience. According to Hobbes, in humanÃâ¢s nature is to be egoist, and one should always look out for oneÃâ¢s best interest, in this case keep the job and graduate from college. On the other side there are many stakeholders depending on the decision he will make, and according to the definition of ethics, it is not about me, it is about others. Clearly, consistently with the definition Craig is not facing a dilemma but a definite choice à to speak out for himself and the customers that are depending on his decision. Craig must not sign the evaluation sheet and must do the only right and ethical thing. He must take this issue to the top management and complain about the wrongfulness of the previous actions of his superiors. If he is threatened with his tuition reimbursement and even if his job is on the line, he must proceed with his intentions and go to the authorities that are responsible for such cases. CraigÃâ¢s duties and obligations in this case are numerous. According to the text, there are seven basic duties for good and bad conduct. One must keep explicit an...

Should there be a minimum age for driving Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Should there be a minimum age for driving - Essay Example Statistics show that teenagers have higher chances of being involved in car accidents and the rates are equally high for death rates caused by such accidents. America, for example has the highest number of teenagers in car accidents. Therefore, the government made it a policy that teenage drivers should have more practice hours, attend seminars about driving and take a written exam before they get licensed. Drivers aged 15-17 are also required to drive with an adult who knows how to drive however, it is known that this is not always practiced. There are teenage drivers who insist on driving alone because they want to reiterate their abilities and capabilities. Most often, parents would give in because they cannot control their children or simply because they are very busy that they do not have time to attend to their children-- which is actually the reason why they are letting their children drive, so that they do not have to drive them to and from school. Left alone in a car, the teenage driver is also left with decisions he oftentimes immaturely acts upon. For instance, once a teenage driver is left with the freedom to use the car, he could also let his friends ride with him which can eventually lead to drinking and doing drugs. These are dangerous paths for teenage drivers because it is known that alcohol and drugs alter a personââ¬â¢s perceptions. Considering that they do not drink or do drugs, driving with a group of friends can lead to joking or even fighting which will affect the driver and could lead to a dangerous accident. Moreover, there is the issue on the use of cellphones among teenagers. Since they oftentimes communicate with their friends, there is a greater tendency for teenagers to be texting or calling while driving. This increases the risk of teenage drivers to be involved in a car accident. One might argue that such circumstances can also be true among adults. Indeed. However,

Critical Asssignement Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Critical Asssignement - Assignment Example Phoneme is considered as the basic unit of sound and phonology is the science of sound. Semantics denote the meaning of a language. In this regard, morpheme is the basic unit of sound to carry meaning. Another major components, which is pragmatics is the study of the use of language. Furthermore, it also deals with the intention behind the utterance. Again, the syntax is another component, which deals with the study of the organization of a language. The intention behind this is to create grammatically correct sentences (Evans, 2009). The implications of these parts or components are to produce a meaningful vocal activity that would lead to the understanding of the expression by the other person. The use of proper components leads to a meaningful communication and would lead to the effective sharing of thoughts and feelings (Byram, 1994). Moreover, it is also essential to considered that language depends significantly upon the situation in which it is used. If the situation is serious and involves the people who are unknown, then it is very likely to use the formal language. On the other hand, if the situation is casual and the people involved are known, then the use of informal language is often expected. It is also observed that people use more formal language while writing and informal language during speaking. Furthermore, language also depends upon the context in which the language is being used. In this regard, it is also been observed that words in different context have different meanings. In addition, it is also to be noted that language is used to understand and access to different cultures in the world. Also, due to the presence of diverse culture, the languages used by people of different culture also vary significantly. Furthermore, with the difference in age of people the language speaks by people tends to differ. It has been observed that the language that a child speaks is different from the language of an adult person. The

No Title :: Olivia Essays
No Title The lines selected for analysis are from act V, scene I, lines 115-129, when Orsino is talking to the love of his life, Olivia, about dueling with the love of her life, his servant Cesario (who is actually lady Viola in disguise, and who is secretly in love with Orsino!). From these lines I find Orsino to be a bitter, jaded, jealous man whose mindset is revenge against the woman who has played with his heart, bruised his feelings, and never returned his undying love, and the man who stole his woman away from him (though she never really was his). In these lines the reader can hear a change in Orsinoââ¬â¢s voiceââ¬âand in his mind. He feels betrayed by the one who was supposed to be loyal, and is now using a take-no-prisoners ideal to this duel. He feels Cesario will get whatââ¬â¢s coming to himââ¬âhow dare he let the woman his master is in love with fall in love with him?ââ¬âthough Cesario had vehemently denied Oliviaââ¬â¢s advances. Orsino is blinded by thi s unnecessary and displaced anger towards Cesario, and firing terrible threats and promises to the woman he loves about the man she loves. He canââ¬â¢t see that Olivia is as unhappy as he is, because the one she loves doesnââ¬â¢t love her back. He sees her only as a tease who strings men along for years with no intention of being in a relationship with them. He doesnââ¬â¢t realize that his vicious actions will push her further away, rather than bring her into his heartââ¬âwhich is what Orsino is ultimately striving for. Ten points for psychological depth: 1. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦savage jealousyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ : these are biting wordsââ¬âââ¬Å"savageâ⬠shows that it is more than just immature, childish jealousy. Itââ¬â¢s real, hard, nasty jealousy that could escalate to more than brooding and sulking in oneââ¬â¢s room about it. This shows Orsino to be extremely emotionalââ¬âwhen the one he loves is infatuated with someone else, and someone so close to him he doesnââ¬â¢t take it lightly. 2. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦savors noblyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ : there is some sick pleasure in enjoying what he is about to do. He can enjoy injuring or killing Oliviaââ¬â¢s love, but heââ¬â¢ll make sure to do it with some grace. I think Orsino would see it as some kind of releaseââ¬âthe ultimate punishment for the man who was supposed to be his servant and obey him forever.

The Holocaust Research Paper - 837 Words
The Holocaust, a sad time in human history, but in all that sadness, there were heroic stories of people and Nazi prisoners standing up for what was right instead of following the awful fascist state that was called Nazi Germany. In this paper, I write about a couple of the rebellions that some of the Jewish population in this time did to fight for what was right and trying to stop Naziââ¬â¢s from brutally murdering them. Here, I tell these stories of heroes and heroism in the very evil Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler. The first rebellion I want to talk about happened on April 19, 1943. It took place in the Warsaw Ghetto which was the largest all Jewish ghettos in Nazi occupied Europe located in the Polish capital city. An estimated population of the Ghetto was 400,000. Germans put a nine foot wall topped with barbed wire surrounding the Ghetto closing it off to the outside world. If anyone tried to escape they would be shot on sight. Living conditions were hard in the Ghet to. Many died from disease or starvation. Many children were used to smuggle in food and supplies that would be illegally sold. The Naziââ¬â¢s would periodically enter the Ghetto and round up Jews to deport to extermination camps. Different bands of guerrillas formed to put up a resistance to the Naziââ¬â¢s. Jewish Fighter Organization (ZOB) and the Jewish Military Union (ZZW) organized to take back control of the Ghetto. They would smuggle guns and make bombs to use in their fight. I will summarize how these events affected people back then and how it has affected people today. Holocaust was one of the biggest travesties in the world. Though use of the term itself dates only to the 1870s, there is evidence of hostility toward Jews long before the Holocaust--even as far back as the ancient world, when Roman authorities destroyed the Jewish temple in Jerusalem and forced Jews to leave Palestine.
